MILWAUKEE (AP) -- President Obama says Wisconsin plays an important role in the nation's economic recovery.

Obama says investments in rural businesses have helped drive job growth in states like Wisconsin. The president points to Quick Cable Corp., API Health Care Group and the Polymer Technology Co. which have added or preserved jobs in Wisconsin.

Obama says there are "a whole bunch" of auto plants that wouldn't be open if his administration had not intervened and workers and management hadn't gotten together to revitalize the auto industry.

The president cites in-sourcing of jobs at Master Lock in Milwaukee, where he visited recently, as the kind of steady progress needed in Wisconsin and the country as a whole.
