This exhibition was organized by the National Center for Children’s Illustrated Literature, Abilene, Texas.

Mystery, Magic, and Mayhem: Wonders from the American Museum of Magic

American magicians for decades promoted extravagant stage spectacles featuring bewildering illusions, underwater escapes, and perplexing disappearances. Posters touting the legendary Harry Houdini, Howard Thurston, Wallace the Magician, and Harry Blackstone promised to captivate American audiences with enchantment and intrigue. Full-color historic lithographs created to publicize their grandiose feats along with performance props used by the masters of American magic comprise this exhibition.
