It's a well-know stigma; women are naturally inclined to be hard on themselves in regards to pretty much everything, especially when it comes to the looks department.
As you can imagine, those insecurities only intensify for women battling an illness where they're losing more hair every day, watching the color of their skin change, or even parts of their shape slowly shift.
That's why in 1985, a program called Look Good Feel Better began to help women battling cancer cope with the physical changes they exhibit during their illnesses. Their free
workshops are devoted to helping improve the self-esteem of female cancer patients.
Long time Look Good Feel Better Beauty Consultant and Cosmetologist Yvonne Harn says the group sessions help create a sense of support and community for the women who are enduring similar hardships. She says through her years in the industry, she's noticed woman find confidence in the workshops as they gather beauty tips and put them to use through hands on experience.
The next session in our community will be this Monday at Wausau's Aspirus Regional Cancer Center at 6:30 p.m.
