The day has finally come for the celebration of the summer, something many Wausau families await every year. Tonight will kick off the 67th annual Jaycees 4th of July Event.

Live bands, magicians, carnival rides, a demolition derby, and fireworks are a few attractions you can expect to see at the Marathon Park this weekend. It's the young chamber's biggest event of the year, says Jaycees President Dawn Kunkel, and it's something that required preparation starting the day after last year's Independence Day.

Wausau city grants the group a portion of funding to support the event, but Kunkel says most of it is made possible from donations and sponsors who graciously contributed through fundraising efforts.

Wausau's 4th of July celebration begins today at noon with Tuscan Road playing later tonight. It runs till the evening of the 4th where fireworks will bring to a close Independence Day festivities.
