Wednesday marks the beginning of the Lincoln County Fair; it's an event people flock to Merrill for every year in hopes to catch a good Ferris wheel ride, check out the livestock, and participate in other heavy hitting events. Perhaps the most rough and rowdy of those will be Sunday's demolition derby.
Derby Promoter Jim Dalbec says it's the 10th year anniversary for the derby, and they're starting to see a string of regulars around the arena. Dalbec says it's a family event that you can be a part of whether you're racing in it or not.
The derby will be split into separate heats depending on the size of the vehicle up for destruction, but the best out of the vans, compact-sized cars, and trucks will end up competing in the feature event which is where the big cash prizes come in.
Since the Grandstand was demolished after most of it had been torn away at from storms throughout the years, temporary bleachers will take their place to provide seating for the crowds.
Dalbec says he expects a large crowd for the derby. Tickets will be $8 for the event.
