It's a holiday tradition - decorating Christmas cookies. I went out to Sweet Lola's Cupcake and Bake Shop on 3rd Street in Wausau to get some tips on how to decorate creatively.

Sweet Lola's was kind enough to share some recipes for royal icing and butter cream frosting.
Royal Icing:
4 Tablespoons of meringue powder
Scant 1/2 cup of water (Scant is below the rim of the measuring cup)
1 pound powdered sugar (sifted)
1/2- 1 teaspoon light corn syrup
Few drops of clear extract (optional)
Directions:
Combine meringue powder and water with a whisk attachment until it's foamy. Then add the powdered sugar, corn syrup, and extract. Beat it for 5 minutes until form stiff peaks. Then you can split and add coloring if you so choose.
Butter Cream Frosting
1 pound butter with vanilla extract
5-6 cups of powdered sugar
1/4 cup of heavy cream
Directions:
Add the powered sugar to the butter and beat it on low with a paddle attachment. One that is combined, beat on high for 3-5 minutes until it's light and fluffy. Lastly, divide and add coloring if you choose.
