Close Out National Ice Cream Month with Ice Cream Cupcakes

It doesn't matter if it's served in a cone, in a dish or eaten straight from the container; ice cream is everyone's favorite cool, creamy treat.

Beth Porior Schaefer Wisconsin Milk Marketing Board stopped by Sunrise 7 Tuesday morning to get the morning crew in the spirit to celebrate National Ice Cream Month.

Schaefer said the average american will eat about 5 gallons of ice cream annually. The top flavors for all that ice cream are: #5rocky road, #4neopolitan, #3butter pecan, #2 chocolate, #1 vanilla.

Wisconsinites love to eat ice cream-so much so that they invented the first ice cream sundae! In 1881, a soda shop in two rivers began serving ice cream topped with chocolate sauce and-voila!-the ice cream sundae was born. In honor of this infamous pairing I have some new twists on the traditional ice cream sundae.

Today we have a homemade ice cream brownie sundae and the caramel corn mascarpone ice cream sundae.

Schaefer said to be called ice cream, the product must be made with at least 10% milkfat. Most premium varieties are made with 12%. That percentage helps ensure every container is rich, smooth and creamy-just the way ice cream should be!

Milk remains the most important ingredient in ice cream. That's why Wisconsin ice cream is a favorite-our state's rolling hills and lush pastureland help our cows produce premium, rich-tasting milk.
