One of the masterpieces from ChalkFest founder, Mort McBain
The sidewalks in downtown Wausau on the 400 block are typically dotted with people moseying about town. But for two days this next weekend, those sidewalks will be covered with hands and a lot, repeat, a lot of chalk.
Chalkfest Wausau will begin next Saturday at 8 a.m.- 8 p.m. and will run through Sunday 8 a.m.- 4 p.m. It's an event open to people of all ages, and as Volunteer Kevin Korpela adds, all walks of life. He says children go crazy for the sidewalk chalk, but adults and legitimate artists create masterpieces out of the vibrant pastel chalks especially.
The top five artists who won the competition last year will also be the featured artists this year at the Chalkfest.
Pre-registration for the event ends next Tuesday the 10th, a chalk art technique class will be offered Wednesday the 11th at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. in front of the Center for Visual Arts, and you can expect to see experienced chalk painter Mort McBain creating special paintings in the center of the 400 block during Market Place Thursday.
