Blessings in a Backpack is a nonprofit organization striving to support elementary school students who qualify for the free or reduced-price meal program.
These students often do not receive the right amount of nutrition on weekends, which can negatively affect their performance in the classroom. Better test scores, improved reading skills, positive behavior; improved health and increased attendance have all been attributed to the success of this program.
Each Friday during the school year, students supported by Blessings in a Backpack will be given a certain amount of food to ensure that they don’t go hungry over the weekend.
Their mission is to help support students at DC Everest elementary schools who may face hunger on the weekends.
The plan is to raise funds now so we can start a program this fall.
How can you help? The more money we are able to raise, the more backpacks with food we can send home with students.
Donations are also always accepted. You can donate or find more information about fundraisers on the Blessings in a Backpack website .
Make sure to designate the donation for the DC Everest schools or Thomas Jefferson school.
All money donated is tax deductible and 100% will support our local schools.
