Some say the past should be left in the past, but one artist is here to show us that many remnants of it are still left in our society today. A series of photos in the First American Center will take you for a journey through time, no matter what age you are. There, Jacob Sieg is presenting his newest project Then & Now.
You can take a glimpse of the historic 400 block in downtown Wausau with the view of today's present architecture all in one photo with his series. That's how Sieg designed these images to be and despite where you're from, or what age you are, there are different stories you can see in each composite.
Then & Now showcases Western Wisconsin's historical buildings and monuments, fused with their location as we perceive it today. Sieg says, "What makes these composite images so unique is that it allows the viewer to imagine themselves out of their place and time."
Sieg is currently working in different areas throughout the state to capture and story-tell through Then & Now. He even struck a deal with Lambeau Stadium to recreate a composite of its past looks and the renovations it's currently undergoing. Unfortunately, that project won't be finished until sometime in 2013.
From Duluth to Chippewa, and back on our home-front here in Wausau, Sieg has recreated moments in time by juxtaposing colors, structures, and people through a method call re-photographing, something he says is really a new type of art.
