Whether you're a fan of caramel caramel macchiato, or steaming extra hot cocoa, we all give into hot drinks at some point. Little cafes like Vino Latte in Wausau whip up cups of joe like nobody's business, but they say a good drink goes beyond just taste. In their business, presentation is key.
That's why this Sunday at 3:30 p.m. the baristas at Vino latte in Wausau will be engaged in an annual latte art competition where they'll be judged on their rosetta, tulip, and heart designs created by a steady hand and foam.
Vino Latte Cafe Manager, Angie Krembs says there's more that goes into the designs than you might think. Baristas must have strong contrast between the dark base of the java and the steamed milk which is poured then swiveled into their own desired artwork. She says it takes creativity, efficiency, and a lot of practice.
Krembs says it's not uncommon for customers to come in and snap a picture of their latte art designs to post online or send to friends.
Only Vino Latte employees are allowed to participate in the competition, but watching is free and open to the public.
Vino Latte is located at the corner of Thomas Street and Grand Avenue at 700 Grand Ave. in Wausau.
