April is sexual assault awareness month. Jane Graham Jennings, the Executive Director of The Women's Community joined us on Sunrise 7 to talk about the stigmas and myths surrounding sexual assault.
Many people mistakenly believe it's the victim's fault and they must have done something to deserve it or to invite the trouble. Jennings, though, says that's absolutely not the case.
Also, she says the biggest thing to do if someone confides in you that they've been a victim is to believe them. Many people's first reaction is to think it just cannot be true, especially since in most cases, the abuser is someone the victim knows.
