The Memorial Day holiday weekend is almost here, and despite high gas prices, AAA is predicting 34.8 million Americans will travel more than 50 miles to make the most of it.
That's half a million more people than last year's report projected.
According to Public Relations Managing Director Yolanda Cage "One of the things that we see that we think might point to this is a rise in the cost of airline tickets. And so by traveling by car with rental car costs being down by 4 percent, hotel costs being up, many motorists and travelers are looking for ways to save and economize this year." She says Memorial Day weekend provides a unique look at the economy based on how many people will travel and by which mode they choose to do it.
