Nightime Snowmobile Speed Limit Could Stay 55 MPH

A proposal in the State Legislature could make the current 55 mile-per-hour nighttime speed limit permanent for snowmobile riders.

The Stevens Point Journal reports, a DNR snowmobile and ATV administrator says he'd like to see the speed limit lowered to 45 miles per hour because at the higher speed, there wouldn't be enough time for snowmobilers to react to things in front of them.

Plenty of operators disagree saying it's unnecessary because in some open areas, there is little danger of hitting anything.
