Rib River Flooding Forces Evacuation of Marathon City Neighborhood

Nearly a half dozen homes in the Marathon City have been evacuated because of rising water in the Rib River.

Police chief Lauren Knoeck tells NewsChannel 7 the homes are along River Rd. on the north side of the village along the Rib River.

Knoeck says the fire department is helping people to move items out of their homes. He says they may be out for a couple days because the river has not yet crested.

Most of the people evacuated, according to Knoeck are going to stay with relatives.

The good news is nobody has been hurt.

Knoeck says he's not seen the Rib River this high since 1990.

Utility workers also cut the power to the flooded area to prevent electricity sparking a fire.
