Secrets in Shawano: Fliers Defending SIST Distributed in Madison, Milwaukee

Fliers, which appear to have been written by CEO of the Samanta Roy Institute of Science and Technology, or SIST, have been showing up on vehicles in Madison and Milwaukee. The 9-page fliers are strongly-worded pleas for help on behalf of the Shawano-area group. They claim Shawano Mayor Lorna Marquardt and her 'hit men' are planning SIST's 'demise.' They say the Mayor wants to eliminate SIST because of the religion and Indian descent of their leader, Avraham Cohen. Naomi Isaacson, SIST's CEO has not yet returned a call for comment.

SIST and Isaacson have made similar accusations against the Mayor in the past. SIST and the City have had a tumultuous history, and SIST has recently been the subject of an FBI Investigation into an apparent hit list, in which the Mayor's name was listed first. That investigation has never led to any charges, but remains open. See our Secrets in Shawano Section for more information.

According to Madison Police, the fliers were placed on cars in parking ramps near the State Capitol. Shawano Police Chief Ed Whealon says they were also found on cars parked near Marquette University and the Aurora Sinai Medical in Milwaukee. Police don't know who distributed the fliers.

Mayor Lorna Marquardt says the flyers are disturbing and untrue.

Meanwhile, bankruptcy proceedings for SIST and its related businesses are still tied up in Federal court. Mayor Marquardt says SIST is now caught up on their local taxes, after they made payments of about $500 thousand in cash to Shawano County and the City of Shawano.
