Alleged Threats Could Impact Shawano Holiday Parade

The City of Shawano is gearing up for their annual holiday parade on December 5th. But it will take place with added caution, because of an active F.B.I. investigation into apparent threats made against a number of local leaders.

A number of Local officials usually participate in the parade. But the City has been in a state of stepped-up security since the threats were made. Shawano’s Mayor, the Town of Wescott Administrator, and others who were apparently targeted say they've changed their daily routines significantly out of fear for their own safety.

Charlene Helms, the parade’s coordinator tells NewsChannel 7 that despite recent uneasiness, the celebration promises to be a great event for their community. In a statement, she says:

"We are looking forward to our 14th Annual Holiday Stroll and Santa Parade, Friday December 5th at 6:00 PM. For years this has been a family tradition for thousands of area residents. This year will be no exception. All of the usual businesses and non-profit organizations will be participating as always as will our local school music departments. Whether or not our local officials participate is a personal decision that they make every year. The real stars of the parade are the beautiful floats, all lit up for the season, and of course Santa!"

The F.B.I. says they still haven't made any arrests in their investigation into the alleged threats. Law enforcement says the Samanta Roy Institute of Science and Technology is being investigated, and a member of the group is a person of interest in the case. S.I.S.T.’s C.E.O. said in a statement that City Officials fabricated the list to create fear, and force S.I.S.T. to leave the City. S.I.S.T.’s attorney denies the group has any connection with any threats.
