The 2012 elections are barely over, but Wisconsin Democrats are already planning for 2014.

Party spokesman Graeme Zielinski says the party is investing $500,000 to hire political directors in the Fox Valley, Eau Claire and La Crosse areas in the next few weeks.

Democrats won the big races for president and U.S. Senate in 2012, but Republicans won enough regional races to maintain control of the state Legislature.

Zielinski blames gerrymandering, the once-every-10-years process of redrawing election maps to account for population shifts. He says Republicans drew maps that divided Democrats and diluted their voting power.

He says Democrats plan to counteract that edge by working even harder to win state Assembly and Senate races.
