Walker Transfers Another $40,000 to Legal Fund

MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- Gov. Scott Walker has transferred $40,000 of campaign donations into his legal defense fund, bringing the total deposited into the account to $200,000.

Walker reported the Dec. 31 transfer in his latest campaign finance report filed Thursday.

Walker created the fund to pay for criminal defense attorneys he hired to represent him in the ongoing investigation into former aides and associates of his when he was Milwaukee County executive. Walker met with prosecutors but has not been charged with any wrongdoing.

While the investigation remains open, Walker has said he expects it to end soon. It has netted convictions against three former Walker aides, one appointee and a campaign donor.

Walker spokeswoman Nicole Tieman says the money was needed to cooperate with authorities over the past year.
