DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) -- There's been a burst of activity by potential candidates for president in Iowa this summer.

But no one has started to do the serious spadework of preparing for a campaign in 2016.

Iowa is a state with a near-constant undercurrent of presidential campaigning. Yet the biggest names in the speculation game are all but absent, because they have the luxury of doing little to nothing at this early stage.

No name is bigger than Democrat Hillary Rodham Clinton, and she appears to be in no hurry.

That leaves Iowa free this year for lesser-known prospects like Texas Republican Sen. Ted Cruz to make a first impression.
