MILWAUKEE (AP) -- A Marquette University law school poll released Tuesday says 51 percent of respondents approve of the way Gov. Scott Walker is doing his job, while 45 percent disapprove.

The poll questioned 717 respondents. The margin of error is plus or minus 4.4 percentage points.

One big issue for Walker has been the economy. He campaigned in 2010 on a pledge to add 250,000 private-sector jobs in his first term.

Forty-nine percent of respondents said they believe Wisconsin is lagging behind other states in creating jobs, while 9 percent said they think the state is creating jobs faster than others. Thirty-five percent say Wisconsin is on pace with other states in creating jobs.

The poll questioned 717 respondents. The margin of error is plus or minus 4.4 percentage points.
