Jerry Petrowski is officially a state senator. He's now representing the 29th Senate District. He was sworn in on Tuesday at the Marathon County Courthouse by Judge Mike Moran. He says some of the things he wants to accomplish in office are jobs and getting people to work together.
State Senator Jerry Petrowski said, "There's an old saying, "United We Win." Bring people together and focus on the important things and I believe there's a lot more things that unite us than divides us, love of family, love of country, friends and family."
Earlier this month, Petrowski defeated Democrat Donna Seidel for an open Senate seat in 29th District during the recall election.
Seidel released this statement on the election results: “I am proud of the grassroots support behind our campaign and while we did not get the result we wanted, I hope those who have been elected this evening will live up to their claims to bring Wisconsin together. The voters have made their decision and it is time to move our state forward. I congratulate Jerry Petrowski and I hope he remembers that he represents all of his constituents, not just those who voted for him.”
Democrats upset with Republican Gov. Scott Walker's polarizing plan to strip most public workers of nearly all their union rights forced the governor, Lt. Gov. Rebecca Kleefisch and four GOP senators, including Pam Galloway of Wausau, into recall elections this past winter. Walker claimed the plan was needed to control the state budget, but many public workers opposed erosion of their bargaining rights.
Galloway chose to resign rather than defend her seat. State election officials decided to continue with the election to fill her seat regardless.
Seidel and Petrowski both currently serve in the state Assembly.
