(Press Release) State Senator Jerry Petrowski (R-Marathon) announced today that his legislative website will now include pages translated into Hmong to assist in providing access for Hmong speaking people in the 29th Senate District.
“This service will help Hmong people in my district more easily connect with my office to express concerns or receive assistance with state agencies,” said Petrowski. “It should be especially helpful for the first-generation Hmong who may not speak English as their primary language.”
Residents of the district can access the website at http://legis.wisconsin.gov/senate/petrowski. Hmong speakers will be able to more easily use the website as a way to contact for Petrowski’s office to provide comments or ask for assistance in Hmong. Lee Lor, a Wausau resident who is currently attending UW Madison, is currently interning in Petrowski’s office and will provide translation assistance and act as a liaison for Hmong speakers.
“I’m very pleased to have Lee in the office,” said Petrowski. “Her help and the additional access on the web should help Hmong citizens more easily interact with my office and all of state government.”
According to the 2010 U.S. Census, more than 5,600 Hmong currently reside in Marathon County, the largest population center in the 29th district.
