Petri Cruises to Win in Republican Primary

FOND DU LAC, Wis. (AP) - U.S. Rep. Tom Petri has cruised to an easy win in Wisconsin's Republican primary.

The incumbent from Fond du Lac trounced tea party challenger Lauren Stephens in Tuesday's primary. Stephens ran a shoestring campaign that never gained traction.

Petri will face Democratic challenger Joe Kallas of Princeton in November.

Petri is looking to hold on to the congressional seat he has held for more than 30 years. He was first elected in 1979.

The 72-year-old Petri has said his priorities include working to create jobs and trimming regulations that create uncertainty for business.

Petri's 6th Congressional District covers Fond du Lac and surrounding areas. The former Peace Corps volunteer and White House aide holds undergraduate and law degrees from Harvard University.
