Governor Scott Walker is touring the state talking about issues that are important to him as part of his "Talk with Walker" events.
His latest stop was Lang Furniture in Marshfield on Thursday, where he spoke to a packed house for about an hour and a half before taking questions.
During the informal, conversation-style event, he addressed many issues outlined in his top five priorities as Governor.
Those include developing the workforce, transforming education, reforming government, and investing in infrastructure.
The number one issue at the top of his list is job growth. The Governor says that will be the biggest challenge the region will face over the next five years.
"We went from job loss before I took office to a job gain," said Governor Walker. "If we can continue putting more people to work [with] more employers hiring in the state of wisconsin, that will mean more revenue and that helps us with everything. Not just in balancing our budget but making investments in education and higher education."
Governor Walker stressed his belief that the government does not create jobs, but that people do. He also pointed out that the unemployment rate was over nine percent before he took office, but that now it's under seven percent.
He also spoke in-depth about education -- saying transforming education is a top priority.
Public education is an area where Governor Walker has cut spending in the past. At Thursday's event he said it's not always about spending more money, it's about spending that money wisely.
He says he wants to add more money when it comes to public education during the next budget. The question right now for him is figuring out what the best way to do that is.
For failing school districts he wants to find specific ways to require them to make improvements. He says he also wants to hold every school district accountable so that every child can have access to a great education.
