MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- Many Wisconsin conservationists cringed last fall when GOP Gov. Scott Walker won office and his fellow Republicans took control of the Legislature. They warned Walker would roll back years of environmental regulations to help business.
Now they say their worst fears have come to pass.
Walker and the GOP have introduced proposals that would delay new limits on phosphorus pollution, end the state's recycling mandate and streamline the permitting process for mines.
Republicans say they're trying to create jobs, but environmentalists say the moves defy conservation traditions that reach back to renowned Wisconsin naturalists Gaylord Nelson and John Muir.
