Republican leaders are telling Gov. Scott Walker's supporters to stick with him in Tuesday's recall election.

U.S. Rep. Paul Ryan, a Janesville Republican, and Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus appeared at a tea party rally in Caledonia, just outside Racine, Saturday. They told the crowd that the recall amounts to a national election that will help build momentum against President Barack Obama in November. They urged people to fan out across their neighborhoods and convince voters to go to the polls.

Democrats pushed Walker and four other GOP officeholders into recalls after they passed a contentious plan to strip most public workers of nearly all their union rights. The race between Walker and his Democratic challenger, Tom Barrett, has grown into a national referendum on organized labor.
