With 100 % of the precincts reporting Mandy Wright has defeated Jeff Johnson for the Democratic primary for the 85th Assembly seat. Wright held 60% of the vote, or 1,624 to Johnson's 1,047.

The Wausau native is a teacher at Horace Mann Middle School. She says her experience in education will be a benefit in public office. "I would work with fellow legislators to make sure that our technical colleges are not held back because they have the demands from local businesses to train people for jobs we already know are available."

Wright will face Republican Pat Snyder, a talk radio host for WSAU in Wausau.

Also on the ballot would be Libertarian Jim Maas, who spent his career working in public school districts and the library at UW- Stevens Point before retiring last year.

Democrat Donna Seidel held this seat, but stepped down for her bid for State Senate.
