Democrats Cancel Unity Rally for Day After Primary

MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- The Democratic Party of Wisconsin has canceled a rally in Madison for the day after Tuesday's recall election primary that was to have included all four candidates for governor.

Party chairman Mike Tate said Monday that he decided to cancel the Wednesday rally after deciding time was better spent on get out the vote efforts to help the primary winner defeat GOP Gov. Scott Walker on June 5.

Tate says none of the candidates asked that it not be held or said they would not participate.

Tate says the candidates will be appearing together publically and talking privately on Wednesday but details have yet to be released.

The Republican Party says cancellation of the rally shows that Democrats are not unified.
