The deadline for state schools superintendent and Supreme Court candidates to submit nomination papers to run for Wisconsin is looming.

State Department of Public Instruction Superintendent Tony Evers and Supreme Court Justice Patience Roggensack are both up for re-election this spring.

Candidates must turn in nomination papers with at least 2,000 valid signatures to the state Government Accountability Board by the end of business Jan. 2 to get on the ballot for either position.

Lemon law attorney Vince Megna and Marquette University law professor Ed Fallone have registered with the board to challenge Roggensack. State Rep. Don Pridemore of Hartford has registered to take on Evers.

The board has scheduled a primary for Feb. 19, if one is needed. The general election is set for April 2.
