Changes Target Unemployment Insurance

MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- Qualifying for unemployment insurance could become more difficult under a series of recommendations being pushed by Gov. Scott Walker.

The recommendations were put forward by a board called upon by Walker to review rules and regulations that could hinder economic growth.

Walker released the report on Tuesday, just before he touted it during his State of the State speech.

More than 300 changes were recommended, including many in the unemployment insurance program. The report says the program was one of the largest concerns of employers who cited its complexity and perceived unfairness to employers. One recommended change is to require the unemployed to file four applications for jobs a week instead of the current two.

Some recommended changes can be done without a law change, while others require legislative action.
