Barrett Says He Will Reunite Wisconsin if Elected

Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett will have another chance to beat Gov. Scott Walker in the recall election June 5th, after winning Tuesday's democratic primary.

Barrett received 57 percent of the vote, outpacing former Dane County Executive Kathleen Falk, who received 35 percent. State Senator Kathleen Vinehout took 4, percent and Secretary of State Doug La Follette took 3 percent.

During his victory party Tuesday night in downtown Milwaukee, Barrett told a crowd of supporters he would work to reunite Wisconsin, bring the state back to a place where neighbors could talk to each other, and put an end to Gov. Walker's ideological civil war.

The crowd booed after Barrett asked if they wanted a governor that's divided the state like it's never been divided before.

"The people in this state want an independent leader, they do not want someone who's going to take the state to the far right. It's always been his way or the highway," Barrett said.

Barrett has been critical of Walker's work on job creation, his push to abruptly end collective bargaining rights for most public workers, and his cuts to education and health care.

Barrett lost to Walker in the general election in 2010.
