Barrett says GOP Failed to Curtail Early Voting

Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett says more people have voted early in Milwaukee this year than did in 2008 when the period to do so was nearly twice as long.

Barrett spoke Saturday before President Barack Obama at a rally in Milwaukee that attracted thousands of people.

Barrett says Republicans wanted to curtail early voting this year after seeing how many Democrats voted early for Obama and other.

Democrats in 2008. But he says about 5,000 more people voted early in Milwaukee before Friday's deadline compared with four years ago.

Early voting this year ended on Friday. In 2008, it ran through the day before Election Day.

Barrett is encouraging those at the rally to vote on Tuesday and get their friends and neighbors to the polls.
