MILWAUKEE (AP) -- Sen. Tammy Baldwin is sponsoring legislation that she says will strengthen America's commitment to research, science and innovation.
The Wisconsin Democrat plans to release details Tuesday at news conferences in Milwaukee and Madison.
The legislation would create a new initiative within the National Institutes of Health to support research. Baldwin's office says it would include having NIH conduct a study on the best ways to establish the next generation of research in this country. It would also call for promoting and developing new policies to improve opportunities for young scientists.
Baldwin plans to meet Tuesday morning with researchers and faculty at the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee. In the afternoon she's scheduled to visit scientists and others at the Wisconsin Institutes for Medical Research in Madison.
