The Merrill Historical Society will soon have room for more exhibits, after raising $1 million in the last two years.
The society will build an expansion behind its current home, which is inside an old church on E. Third Street.
Along with more exhibits, the new Merrill History and Culture Center will house a research library, office and community space.
The group's treasurer says the community support is much appreciated.
"To be in a position to do this whole thing and kind of put a good face on it for Merrill is phenomenal," said Pat Burg.
Burg says raising the funds came with challenges, especially with the current economic climate and the Merrill tornado.
But donors came through. One anonymous donor gave hundreds of thousands of dollars.
Construction will begin within the next couple of weeks.
