All the experts we talked with say it's a great idea to write down a budget. Much like keeping track of food when you're on a diet, you will have a better chance of sticking to a budget when you write it down.
The money people all say you should save as much money as possible. And the younger you start, the better off you'll be.
If your bills are high, and who's aren't? You can always find some places to trim. Maybe stop at your favorite high end coffee shop twice a week instead of five times. Give up magazine subscriptions and premium cable channels. Or just find better deals for the items you have to have, like insurance.
Take as much advantage of your company's 401k perk as possible. Whatever they match, it's free money!
And finally, be carefully in moving around any investments yourself. A financial planner can navigate rough waters a lot better, because he or she has a lot more training in the markets.
