The Pinewood Derby Race is an annual family event. An organizer says the race started over 60 years ago in California and it's a Nationwide Cub
Scout activity - but the scouts aren't the only ones participating.
There is an open race held for the scouts siblings where girls can also race their hand-made cars. Many parents also take part in the event.
"The kids are competitive. They like to have bragging rights with friends so they always like to have the best and fastest car. Dads also like tinkering with the tools," says John Schultz, a Pack 297 Committee organizer.
