“Out of Sight” – Four People’s Stories that will Change Your Vision of the World
More than 21 million people in our country suffer from vision loss and about a hundred and 20-thousand of them live right here in Wisconsin.
This week NewsChannel 7 is bringing you a series of special reports called “Out of Sight,” where we’ll share the struggles four visually impaired people in our area have overcome, how they’ve done it and why the goal they are constantly striving for is independence.

We’ve all had tough days when we complain life just isn’t easy, but take a moment to imagine how much more difficult it would be if you couldn’t see.
"The challenge is being able to function in the everyday world with everyone else," said Sandra Volhard, who has limited vision.

Whether or not a person who loses their sight can do learn to live like they used to depends on a lot of things, like the drive to succeed, self confidence and sometimes admitting you need a little help.
"The reason I came in is because I knocked down an elderly woman one day walking downtown,” said Todd Rasmussen. “I didn't see her."

Visually impaired people throughout Wisconsin are finding needed support and training right here in Northcentral Wisconsin.
"You come here and you see these people walking here and find out, you know, it's not as bad as you think,” said Todd Rasmussen, a man who recently lost his sight.
