NEW INFO: Emerson Sentencing Pushed Back to April 6th

James Emerson, the man convicted this week of the 1999 murder of Rhonda Emerson in Wausau, is scheduled to be sentenced April 6th.

Online court records show it was pushed back from an original date of March 19th Thursday.

The 44-year old Emerson was found guilty Tuesday after a jury deliberated only 1-and-a-half hours.

It followed a trail that lasted nearly two weeks.

Prosecutors say Emerson beat the 37-year old Mertes to death after she refused to have sex with him in an abandoned area of downtown Wausau.

He was arrested in 2007 after improvements in forensic testing placed his DNA at the scene.
