Witnesses take the Stand in Emerson Trial

Testimony in the James Emerson murder trial continues Monday as 8 witnesses are scheduled to take the stand in Marathon County Court in hopes of piecing together the chain of events that led up to the death of Rhonda Mertes nearly a decade ago.
Three witnesses have tesitified so far. Those include a city enginner who took a professional survey of where evidence was found, a state crime lab employee who photographed evidence at the scene and then transported evidence to the state crime lab, and the Marathon County Medical Examiner.
The medical examiner told the court Rhonda Mertes died of blunt force trauma to the head and strangulation.
Mertes' boyfriend is also among those expected to testify today.
44-year-old James Emerson was arrested in Mertes' death in 2007... When forensic tests put his DNA at the crime scene.
