The trial for James Emerson, the man accused of beating Rhonda Mertes to death in Wausau nearly a decade ago is scheduled to resume Monday.

Eight people are expected to be called as witnesses starting first thing in the morning.

Among them are the victim’s boyfriend, the county medical examiner and the owners of the bar where she was last seen alive.

Security Monday, as it has been since the start of the trial, will be tight.

Everyone who goes into the courtroom must go through a metal detector.

If it goes off, people are given the once over with a hand unit.

Two sheriff’s deputies are always standing by the defendant as well.

In a motions hearing before the trial started, Emerson’s own attorney said he was afraid of his client.
