NEW INFO: Jury From Outside Marathon County Will Hear Emerson Trial
A jury from Iowa County will decide the guilt or innocence of James Emerson, the man accused of murdering Rhonda Mertes.
His attorney made a motion for a change of venue or venire, to either move the trial or bring in jurors from another county.
The defense and prosecution agreed to the change of venire, or bringing in an outside jury, after a short hearing Monday afternoon.
The trial is currently set to get underway in January.
Emerson is charged with the 1999 murder of Rhonda Mertes in Wausau.
The state is relying on DNA evidence they say was found on Mertes' body after she was found dead.
