Volunteers are needed to make sure the Susan G. Komen Central Wisconsin Race for the Cure runs smoothly.
The 5K run/walk race is in Wausau again this year, on Sunday, August 21st.
According to Gretchen Thuot, who co-chairs the race, the massive event takes hours of dedication and lots of volunteers.
"We would love to generate more volunteer interest in the race for 2011. We have many opportunities both before race day and on race day," Thuot said.
She says the run-walk raises significant funds for the fight against breast cancer.
Last year nearly $200,000 was raised in Central Wisconsin. Up to 75 percent of those funds are reserved for local use.
"The affiliate grants money to programs such as Marshfield Clinic: A Time to Heal and also helps fund the Aspirus Mammography Mobile Unit," she said.
Participants and volunteers can sign up online. The week before the race, participants can sign up at the Wausau Center Mall.
