Cindi Wanta was diagnosed with breast cancer in early 2006. She says it was difficult, but it gave her a new perspective on life.
"It was a really scary time because you don't expect it," says Wanta.
But Wanta says surviving cancer has helped her gain the courage to start her own business. Once her health improved, she opened Oasis Day and Wellness Spa in Mosinee two years ago.
Now, Wanta is using her experience to help others. Throughout October, any breast cancer survivor can stop by the spa for a free massage, manicure or pedicure.
"I would love to have them come in even if they don't want to have a treatment with me, just to come on in and sit down and talk," says Wanta.
Wanta says that just talking to someone else who has also gone through breast cancer treatment could mean all the difference to how a survivor feels.
"When they're going through their treatment make them feel comfortable and maybe even feel good about themselves," Wanta says.
Wanta promised herself that when she got better, she would do whatever she could to help others get past the cancer too.
"This is my way to help them get through their struggle and their battle," says Wanta.
Wanta is also working on completing a specialty training program. She will be certified to provide services specifically designed for those going through cancer treatment.
