"Look Good, Feel Better" Giving Cancer Patients A Reason to Smile

In a split second, our lives can turn upside down. Just ask Victoria Gould. She says, "I found out I had breast cancer two months ago, and about the same time my mom found out she had it."

Since then, her battle with breast cancer hasn't been easy. That's why she's taking part in a program in Langlade County called, "Look Good, Feel Better." Gould says, "It will probably help with my self-esteem because I'm always down."

It's a free program offered to cancer patients at the Langlade Hospital Cancer Center. "They can come in and be cared for. A lot of women either don't know the application, or makeup, or don't know about wigs, or where they can get them," says Lynn Yaeger, Oncology Nurse Services Manager.

They learn all of that by working closely with cosmetologists, and have chance to share their story with others. "For me, looking at all the patients that come in, it gives a lot of hope for me to see them because I know what they're going through," says Theresa Clark.

Theresa Clark also battled breast cancer for 11 years. She also took part in the program and now works with patients, like Gould, in the program. She says, "It's just the comradery of people, going through the same thing, knowing you're not alone in the process."

It's giving women, like Gould, a chance to smile, look beautiful, and feel good once again. "When they leave with that smile on their face, it's something you can't, it's priceless," says Yaeger.
