Making an appearance on the Never Forgotten Honor Flight trip was Mark Bradley, the son of John Bradley, the Antigo native whose likeness appears in the Iwo Jima Memorial in Washington D.C.
Bradley spoke to the veterans, talking about the widespread misconceptions about the original photograph, snapped as his father and 5 other Marines planted an American flag on an Iwo Jima mountain top.
Mark says his father always said the inspirational photo wasn't really about the infamous battle, it was just an accident.
"This had nothing to do with his service this was a peaceful day putting up a flag it wasn't the fighting that I think he always thought of when someone would mention the battle of Iwo Jima," says Mark.
John Bradley, the last survivor of the men in the photo, died in Antigo in 1994.
Mark was a guardian on yesterday's flight. He says it's the least he can do for the veterans who, like his father, gave up so much for our country.
