UPDATE: Nearly 90 area veterans are back home after a trip to our nation's Capitol.
They're the latest group to make the voyage, thanks to the Never Forgotten Honor Flight.
The free, day trip gives veterans an opportunity to see the war monuments standing in their honor in Washington D.C. this trip was our area's fifth.
Most of these vets served in World War II, but eventually veterans from the Korean and Vietnam wars will get to participate too.
Vets agree, the trip truly is a once in a lifetime opportunity that they can share together.
The Honor Flight is made possible through business sponsorships and private donations. Each vet gets to take the trip for free. Guardians accompany them, ensuring a safe trip.
The next Never Forgotten Honor Flight takes off October 17th. It will be the sixth for this area.
FROM SEPTEMBER 19th: Dozens of veterans from the area get ready for the trip of a lifetime as the next Never Forgotten Honor Flight, the first of two set for this fall, leaves Monday.
Never Forgotten is the local branch of the national organization that flys veterans to Washington D.C., free of charge. Monday's flight is scheduled to leave from the Central Wisconsin Airport in Mosinee at 7:00am Monday morning.
In a first for the organization, they've put together two flights within just a few weeks of each other. The second for the fall is scheduled for October 17th.
Between the two flights, 180 vets will get to see the nation's Capital. They'll be taken care of by 60 guardians who go along on the trip.
If you'd like to be a part of the huge welcome home celebration at the airport, Monday's flight is expected to return at about 10:00pm Monday night.
