Cyclists in Wisconsin Rapids biked Saturday to raise money for the central Wisconsin Never Forgotten Honor Flight.

More than 100 participants came out to ride in the 100 mile or 50 mile route.

All the money from the event goes to the program, which sends WWII veterans to Washington D.C.

Organizers say it's the least they can do for the men and women who served our country.

“Everyone either knows or has a grandfather or father that served in WWII,” Honor Fight co-founder Mike Thompson said. “I think we all respect and honor those folks and want to put them on a plane to Washington DC free of charge.”

This is the second year of the ride.

Thompson says they’re already on track to beat the $17,000 raised last year, which sent more than 30 vets on the trip.

"We've got an 87-year-old WWII veteran that's going to do the 50 mile with us this morning, so that's pretty incredible,” Thompson said. “Warm to my heart."

The two flights in September and October give veterans the chance to see the war memorials in D.C.
