Hundreds of World War Two veterans are getting a special opportunity this spring to visit their memorial in Washington D.C. "The Never Forgotten Honor Flight" has seen strong community support this year.

In just two weeks, one hundred veterans will take an important trip, all thanks to community groups and businesses in Central Wisconsin.

Organizers say the community has really stepped up in an amazing way to support an important program.

"Community members, groups and organizations have been contacting us to actually volunteer and come to us with fundraising ideas that are very creative and pretty unique," says Dick Jarvis, Never Forgotten Honor Flight volunteer.

Over the weekend, Harvey Krueger, a Weston World War Two veteran held a fundraiser.

He sold his wood carvings, raising 10 thousand dollars for the Honor Flight...enough to send 20 veterans to D.C.

"I just wanted to do something and this is perfect because I can keep going," says Krueger.

And a few weeks ago, Bull Falls Brewery hosted a 5k run-walk fundraiser. Final numbers aren't in yet, but the brewery's owner says that despite the dreary weather the day of the event, they raised more than they did last year.

"We have 462 runners and that'll allow us to send at least 12 maybe 13 or 14 on this year's honor flight," says Don Zamzow, Bull Falls owner.

Honor flight organizers say turnout at local fundraising events has been unbelievable.

The honor flight hopes all World War Two veterans will sign up to go to D.C.
