Whooping Cough Outbreak in Marathon County

Marathon County is dealing with an outbreak of whooping cough.

The Health Department says they're monitoring more than 100 possible cases of pertussis.

Symptoms usually develop into long coughing fits that can result in vomiting. Pertussis is spread through the air and is very contagious.

It can be deadly for infants under six months old and others with respiratory or immune problems.

Possible patients should see their doctor to be tested, treated and isolated.
